A Team GB Golden Celebration Party with

Courvoisier Punch

Courvoisier Punch

Courvoisier Punch

When I was asked recently if I would like to host a party and that I would be sent some complimentary Courvoisier cognac with all the ingredients to make a Courvoisier Punch for my party, I accepted with alacrity! I mean, I am a party kinda gal! ONLY one tweensy weensy problem, I was on my way to France, home to Courvoisier cognac of course, so I asked if my boozy booty could be sent to my sister’s house, where we ware staying before we travelled to France a few days later…….no problem was the welcome response, and off we set for France a day later, laden with cognac, punch bowl, oranges and lemons, lemonade and other sundry bits and pieces, and oh yes, the COGNAC punch recipe!

And so it was, that my Courvoisier cognac made it back home to France! Party plans were set in motion, and ten people accepted. The theme was a Team GB Golden Celebration partya party to celebrate all that Team GB managed to achieve throughout the London 2012 Olympics as well as a toast to the Paralympics that are coming up next! The punch bowl I was sent was magnificent, a beautiful beaten copper bowl with a brass stand and a stainless steel liner – it almost represented the three Olympic medal colours of Gold, Silver and Bronze.….and it was to have PRIDE of place in the centre of my party table, filled with Courvoisier Punch of course!

I discovered some patriotic bunting that I had left over from the Jubilee, and a simple barbecue party was planned, with a nod to my French cognac punch  by way of a French cheese board served with baguette and Normandy butter. I made a big salad, and some Coronation chicken skewers, as well as some British Burgers – basically beefburgers with English mustard and Stilton cheese, and served them in my home-made Baps -Scottish Morning Rolls. My sister made a cheese and onion tart and we had fresh fruit to serve with the cheese board, as well as some Barbecued Peaches with Honey and Lavender for those who wanted something a bit sweeter.

As dusk fell, the punch bowl needed replenishing, again, and the scent of charcoal was somehow comforting; the cheese board was passed around the table, bread was broken with family and friends, and the whole evening was idyllic. The Courvoisier Punch was DELICIOUS, a fruity concoction that slipped down very well….and the punch bowl glimmered and shone in the candle light. Small glass jars (yoghurt pots actually!) were scattered about the table filled with freshly picked roses from the garden; the bunting fell down, much to the delight of everyone, but it was all just perfect! It was an evening of harmony, celebration, friendship, good food, good wine, good cognac and wonderful company.

I have had cognac before as a “long” drink, mixed with soda water, but never as a punch, and I have to say I am now a convert! It was easy to make and the excellent Courvoisier cognac, which coincidently is one of my favourites, was mellow with a warm caramel flavour. I have visited the home of Courvoisier before, it it known as Napoleon’s brandy and comes from Jarnac in the Charente in SW France. You can read more about it and make a virtual visit here: A REVOLUTIONARY JOURNEY THROUGH TIME

The recipe is below and I can highly recommend it, even the men at the party, who were beer and wine drinkers, enjoyed it and I got through FOUR punch bowls of it throughout the evening! I was sent two bottle of Courvoisier VS Cognac, some lemonade, oranges, lemons, Angostura bitters and the BEAUTIFUL punch bowl with the ladle and I would like to thank Holly who liaised with me to get this party planned and happening! DO give try this punch next time you have a gathering of the clans, although I have subsequently found out that you make it by the GLASS too……just reduce the amounts and make it in a small jug! I hope you have enjoyed my virtual Team GB Golden Celebration Party, and the Courvoisier Punch, See you later with a Random Recipe, have a great evening, Karen
